John Tarahteeff - Works 2004

As always John Tarahteeff speaks in a personal language and at times there are subtle metaphors, lonely figures and complex psychological messages. Some might think he is surreal, but with his great range of symbolic and meditative images, he surpasses just a dreamlike state. The work manifests a seemingly disparate and subconscious level resulting in a confounding psychological underpinning of images. The tensions are there, and his stories demand attention.

Another phase for Tarahteeff, "Between Story" melds older paintings including pastoral scenes, lighthearted and carefree with works depicting darker mysterious and absurd narratives. The paintings are exciting connections with visual energy and deft execution.
