John
Tarahteeff’s paintings show great range, technical skill and seamless blending
of intelligence and aesthetics. These new paintings have a story to tell,
exposing in a spontaneous moment the whole of the tale. The work speaks in the
deeply personal language of the artist.
The statements
about being a young adolescent, is frank, galvanizing and sometimes
disturbing. He lets us ponder our own frivolous life of growing up through
those unsettled youthful years. At times he lets us laugh at our own
ridiculous ways of spent youth. His perspective prompts us to recognize the
fallibility, frailty and innocent mistakes made in childhood.
The title of the show Idylls & Exiles
declares the following: "Childhood myth creates these Idylls where tainted
children live as Exiles."
A forty-one-page catalogue that documenting the direction of John Tarahteeff
with this body of work was published by the gallery in Fall of '98 and is now
completely sold out.
