David Post paints scenes of life, of the world people live in: the cozy
reading corners, the view from the window, the thoughtful moments no one
is supposed to see. His artistic mission has always been to transform the
ordinary of our world into the extraordinary of art. In this current body
of work, Post expands upon his basic creative tenet, experimenting more
fully with the possibilities of abstraction and representation. In his
figural works, Post balances the shorthand rendering of contemporaneous
artists with the expressive, narrative concerns of the Old
Masters—centering himself somewhere between the strictly compositional and
the highly evocative. He paints “portraits” that are alive, expressive,
passionate and individual, demanding psychological as well as aesthetic
consideration. These new works make one fact very clear: David Post has
become a powerful storyteller, superseding what is ordinary about
existence with imagination, emotion and acrylic paint.
