Solomon Dubnick Gallery will be exhibiting
recent oil paintings by Mark Bryan through the month of May.
Bryan has become known as a deadly satirist taking on the villains
of the day and the stupidities of human behavior in surprising and
delightful fashion. He is also known for purely humorous and
whimsical works and others that evoke wonder and ask the big
questions.
“For this show I've decided to mix things up a
bit. Included will be satirical works taking on my favorite topics
such as sex, religion, politics, war, robots, monkeys, bunnies and
free floating modern angst. Underneath all this fun, I like to tell
myself that I’m making some serious comment about the human
condition.”
This past year Bryan’s work has received wide
recognition. He has exhibited throughout California and the US. His
work has appeared in numerous publications, satirical and political
web sites across the US and internationally. Bryan’s work was
featured as cover art for several magazines. His new painting "East
of OZ", included in this show, was the cover last fall for Canadian
magazine of the year "Geez" ("Monsters in our Midst")
Last January Bryan was given a feature article
in Juztapoz magazine, the #1 most read art magazine in the US. His
work has also appeared several times in “Adbusters” magazine.
Included in this show will be the original
painting “The Mad Tea Party” which has become a liberal icon
savaging the Bush administration in a merciless but entertaining
manner. This fall, the “Tea Party” will be appearing in a new movie.
“Lake View Terrace”, starring Samuel Jackson, a thriller in which
one scene depicts Jackson destroying the painting in a fit of rage.
If you want to have some fun and don’t mind
thinking a little, this is a show not to miss.
The exhibit runs from May 1st. through May
31st.
Opening reception will be Friday, May 2nd 6:30-8:30 PM.
Second Saturday reception will be: May 10th, 6-9pm
