Geo-Environmental Drilling

Jaca & Sierra Engineering, PSC (J&S) has an environmental drilling division dedicated to providing services of installing monitoring wells, lithologic sampling and conducting various task related to geo-environmental studies and remediation. J&S has worked, mostly for environmental consulting firms and contractors on EPA superfund sites and closure/cleanup of military, manufacturing, petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceutical facilities.

Our environmental drillers are trained with 40 hr HAZWOPER and 8 hrs yearly refreshers.

J&S has seven (7) different drilling rigs that can be used for geo-environmental purposes. These include the following:

Track Mounted Geoprobe D7722: HSA and DPT
Five (5) CME 55 Trailer Mounted Drill rigs: Rotary and Hollow Stem Auger size 2.25 to 12 inch ID size range
Mobile Drill B-61: HSA 2.25 inch to 12 inch ID and Rotary
Two (2) Ingersoll Rand T-4: Air Drilling Rig for Deep Wells in Rock

Notable Projects:

Roosevelt Roads, Ceiba, PR Navy Cleanup (various projects)/Clients: CH2MHill, AGVIQ, Baker: This project consisted on installing over forty (40) monitoring and remediation wells having 2 inch to 6 inch casing and screen diameter. The project was part of a major environmental site investigation of the former military facilities which including tracing of petroleum products, heavy metals and other munitions compounds. Work extended to the installation of remediation wells at different strategic locations.
San German, PR Groundwater Contamination Site/Client: CDM Smith: This was an environmental assessment project for an EPA Superfund site which included 2 and 4 inch monitoring wells and also deep remediation wells.
Environmental Site Assessment and Monitoring Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, San Juan, PR/Client: Caribbean Airport Facilities: Work consisted of installing twelve (12) ground water monitoring nested wells for sampling and analytical testing of petroleum products at the premises as part of an EPA enforced monitoring on the facilities and evaluation of plume spread and concentration decay.
Vieques Bombing Range Geo-Environmental Studies (various projects) Client: CH2MHill: This project required installation of monitoring wells, soil and ground water sampling for the former Navy bombing practice range and munition storage facilities in Vieques, PR.
ESSO Airport Facilities, Barbados, W.I./Client GES: This work included installation of a 200 ft depth monitoring wells for groundwater sampling.

Since 1995, Jaca & Sierra Testing Laboratories (J&S) and its water well drilling division: Aqua Drilling, Inc. (ADI) have provided subsurface water supply to many projects, industries and communities. Our well division has dedicated and experienced engineers, technical personnel and drillers. J&S/ADI has two (2) deep well drill rigs with air drilling and mud rotary capabilities. J&S/ADI has experienced engineering staff for design and installation of advanced submersible pump systems and controls to match water flow demand and pressure. Our strong geology and Geoprofessional practice background assists in providing our best knowledge into the well design and construction field.
